News of the World phone-hacking whistleblower found dead
Hertfordshire police would not confirm his identity, but the force said in a statement: “At 10.40am today [Monday 18 July] police were called to Langley Road, Watford, following the concerns for the welfare of a man who lives at an address on the street. Upon police and ambulance arrival at a property, the body of a man was found. The man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained, but not thought to be suspicious. Police investigations into this incident are ongoing.”

Speaking to another Guardian journalist last week, Hoare repeatedly expressed the hope that the hacking scandal would lead to journalism in general being cleaned up and said he had decided to blow the whistle on the activities of some of his former News of the World colleagues with that aim in mind.

“Several doctors interviewed across the country, particularly in rural areas, described frustration over being barred from taking a few extra minutes during a Caesarean delivery to tie the tubes of women who no longer want children or face complications if they become pregnant again. “I feel very stuck,” said a doctor at a hospital in an isolated town in a western mountain state whose institution barred the procedures after the Phoenix case. “I don’t know where to turn.””—

Dear Christians,
You know how you always whine and moan that atheists just can’t keep their atheism to themselves? THIS is why we can’t do that because your beliefs are affecting what people can and cannot do in a country that is supposed to guarantee a certain level of freedom. Religiously-affiliated hospitals are sometimes the only option for people which means women are left without sterilization or contraceptive options because the doctors are not allowed to provide them.

- Sexual health counseling,
Your health is being threatened by someone else’s religion.
Shit like this makes my blood boil. The same thing is happening with pharmacies.

“A nurse practitioner at an Idaho Planned Parenthood called a local Walgreen’s pharmacy to fill a prescription for Methergine, a medicine used to prevent or control bleeding of the uterus following childbirth or an abortion. The pharmacists refused to fill the prescription unless the nurse told her whether or not the patient had an abortion. Because of patient confidentiality laws, the nurse refused to disclose that information, and asked for a referral to another pharmacy. The pharmacist hung up.”—

And now for a new subject: On what planet is this ok?
It shouldn’t be okay anywhere and it shouldn’t be legal.
