#leaveyourbank Bank of America.. job creation #infographic #occupy
Do you expect them to just ‘create jobs’ out of the goodness of their hearts, when there is little to no demand to do so? Certainly not to create nearly 900,000 of them? There is no incentive for them to do so, because they are incentivized to do precisely the opposite. Framing this like “they COULD create jobs, but they just don’t want to,” while accurate, misses the point.
It’s a systemic problem of capitalism. Don’t get me wrong, I support “Move Your Money,” but more people (inside and outside this movement) need to understand that ‘crony capitalism’ is just the logical conclusion of capitalism itself. Feel free to use your ability to ‘choose’ where to place your money, but unless we address the systemic problems of capitalism, it’s no wonder why things have ended up this way.
A new movement is picking up steam, and it isn’t Occupy Wall Street. It was sparked by a woman in Los Angeles who is urging people to close their accounts with big banks, and transfer their savings to not-for profit-credit unions. And she wants everyone to make the move by November 5th - the day she’s calling “Bank Transfer Day”.
I visited a local credit union yesterday. I’m going to visit another one tomorrow. Our plan is to open an account at a credit union, then close out our account at Wachovia/Wells Fargo.
I think this is one of the most important things people can do to help the OWS movement. I urge all my friends and followers who currently have accounts with one of the big banks to please take your money out! Put your money in a local credit union, or at least in a local bank.
Hit them where it hurts.
