If you live in Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, or West Virginia and plan to vote for President Obama in November, this message is to you.

President Obama is not going to carry your state and you are literally wasting your vote.  There’s just zero chance of Obama winning those states, period.  Or at least, the scenario that would have to unfold to end up in an Obama victory would be interesting to read.

There are going to be three names on the presidential ballot in all fifty states, but there’s a good chance that you won’t recognize one of the names.  Gary Johnson is running on the Libertarian ticket. I know everyone always says that a third party candidate can’t win, but I don’t buy it.  I think that if people were honest and voted for the person whose positions most mirrored their own, Johnson would win.

Do I agree with all of his positions?  No, of course not.  But do I agree with President Obama’s “kill list” or his policy of using drones to kill sometimes innocent civilians?  No.  Do I support his crackdown on medical marijuana facilities supported by local communities across the country? No. He hasn’t closed Gitmo, it took a Biden slip to give us a president who publicly supports equality for LGBT Americans, and he modeled his healthcare reform on the one created by his Republican opponent.

I voted for Obama in 2008 and up until a few days ago, I planned to vote for him again. But President Obama isn’t going to win Georgia. There’s no way. So, instead I’m casting my vote for Gary Johnson.

Gary Johnson opposes the Patriot Act, is anti-war, and against the invasive searches by the TSA.  He supports legalizing, regulating, and taxing marijuana.  He supports marriage equality for all Americans.  And he supports a free internet.

If you live in Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, or West Virginia, I encourage you to consider voting for Gary Johnson. I encourage you to tell pollsters that you are considering voting for Gary Johnson. Look him up on the google.

I didn’t put Nebraska on the list because they don’t distribute their delegates on a winner-take-all formula.  Apart from Nebraska, President Obama doesn’t stand a chance of winning a single delegate in any of those states I listed. With support from disillusioned Democrats in those states and from disillusioned Republicans in those states, Johnson could end up with nearly 150 electoral votes.

I’m no expert by any means. But I’m sick and tired of always having the same two choices.

What are your thoughts?
