As we all regain the hour we lost some months ago, here’s my post on the subject from March:

When ‘daylight savings time’ was explained to an old Indian, he said: ‘Only the government would claim to cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and end up with a longer…

Here’s what’s wrong with your argument, LAL: It’s a typical, kneejerk libertarian diatribe against government with no basis in fact.

You could have argued that DST has been shown to reduce the amount of time people spend outdoors engaging in physical activity, which negatively impacts people’s health. You could have argued that Swedish researchers “published a report in 2008 in the New England Journal of Medicine reporting that the number of heart attacks jumps during the period immediately following time changes, and that those vulnerable to sleep deprivation should be extra careful.” You could’ve made a case that science is divided on whether DST actually saves energy and is therefore better for the environment.

Of course, being a libertarian you’re not used to having facts on your side so I guess it’s understandable that your argument here is weak. Like your ideology. — Ryking
