Laura and I went downtown for LaughFest tonight and it was great! We got there in time to enjoy dinner on the roof of The Georgia Theatre. If you haven’t been up there, you really should. It’s a bigger menu than I expected and our only complaint was that our sodas tasted a bit off. I guess we should have been drinking alcohol. We had a BBQ sandwich, fries, and deviled eggs while listening to some really chill music.
After dinner, we headed downstairs for the comedy show. I wanted to make sure we sat far enough away from the stage to avoid any attention. I’ve been at some shows when they involve the audience in the show and I’m not good at that. Of course someone’s cell phone went off and there was plenty of people who wanted to talk, but the comics handled it perfectly. The lineup for the night was Jake Brannan, Luke Fields, John-Michael Bond, Caleb Synan, and Brendon Walsh, with Chris Patton hosting, and they were all funny.
It was a great way to kickoff AthFest! Looking forward to the rest of the festival.
The Flagpole Music Awards were great last night. As always, I found several bands that I want to see this weekend.
Here’s my plan for this evening:
* Get the kids in bed and get out the door!
9p - Reptar (Pulaski Street Stage)
10p - Quiet Hounds (40 Watt)
11p - Twin Tigers (40 Watt)
12a - Lera Lynn (40 Watt)
1a - Modern Skirts (40 Watt)
seeing this pretty lady tonight.
tv on the radio cover.
Saw Lera play this song Thursday night at the Flagpole Awards. Love her.
Athens seems to have a fantastic music scene. I’m jealous. Her voice is lovely.
Oh, it’s great here! Music, art, and we’re starting to have a pretty great comedy scene too! This year was the second year that LaughFest has kicked of Athfest. Athens is like an island in the middle of a repressive, backwards, right-wing, fundamentalist sea of crap. You’ll have to visit sometime! I’d recommend next year in late June for Athfest 2012!
