Potter County library faced protests over gay...
After several hours of people pointing their fingers in her face and telling her she was going to hell, Keturah Cappadonia cracked. In tears, the 28-year-old librarian in this rural town of 2,500 people typed an e-mail to Joe Wilson and Dean Hamer canceling the planned screening of their award-winning PBS documentary about the challenges of being openly gay in rural Pennsylvania.

seeking advice from school librarians
Last year was my first year as a school librarian. I work in a preK-2 school and last year I was on a fixed schedule. I saw six classes a day. This year, it looks like I might be moving to a flexible schedule. We talked a little about it last year, but it never seemed feasible and I haven’t even been officially told anything yet. But I’ve been hearing things through the grapevine...

A Closer Look at Reading Incentive Programs →
All those reading incentive campaigns inflicted on elementary school children across the country provide sobering evidence of just how many parents and educators are trapped by Skinnerian thinking. They also illustrate the consequences of extrinsic motivators more generally. Asked about the likely results of “Book It!”, Pizza Hut’s food-for-reading program,...

That’s the score in one of the more unusual online poltical disputes so far in what is already a very strange political year—and it all began when the Oregon Tea Party decided to use the slogan of the infamous Internet group Anonymous.

I don’t feel like they’re enough school librarians on tumblr. There are tons on Twitter, but it feels like a ghost town around here.
Am I missing lots of school library tumblr blogs? I’ve tried to doing various searches and I come up with squat.

The folks at Palestinian Refugee ResearchNet thought they’d create a Facebook page only to discover: Facebook blocks the term “Palestinian”! (H/t Jillian C Cork.)
Are Palestinians the only group so blocked from making pages? Well, not really… after a little fiddling around, I discovered that al-Qaida Refugee ResearchNet and Nazi...

thoughts on the coming year in the library
I’m downtown at a coffeehouse. So much easier to get stuff done here than at home. I’ve been trying to come up with lessons for the first few weeks of school. I ended up with the beginning of a rough draft for the entire year’s lessons.
I’m thinking of doing twenty-two lessons. There are thirty-six weeks of school, but once you take into account book fairs, inventory,...

Saul: This is like if that Blue Oyster shit met that Afghan Kush I had - and they had a baby. And then, meanwhile, that crazy Northern Light stuff I had and the Super Red Espresso Snowflake met and had a baby. And by some miracle, those two babies met and fucked - this would the shit that they birthed. Dale: Wow. This is the product of baby fucking.

As Green was executing the family, Cortez finished raping Abeer and switched positions with Barker. Green came out of the bedroom and announced to Barker and Cortez, “They’re all dead. I killed them all.” Cortez held Abeer down and Green raped her. Then Cortez pushed a pillow over her face, still pinning her arms with his knees. Green grabbed the AK, pointed the gun at the...

Hey everyone: I have a question.
pangea:
When I’m not on the phone at work [and really, even when I am], I am sitting and reading the internet. Sometimes, no matter how many times I refresh Tumblr, I run out of internet to read.
Besides all of you lovely people’s Tumblrs, do y’all have any blogs you could recommend for the purpose of passing time?
I already check Dooce, 2birds1blog, and Hyperbole and a Half like it’s my...

question for iPhone users
My wife is trying to upload videos from her iPhone to Facebook. We’re using Pixelpipe. The videos upload, but they don’t show up on her wall. We can’t find a privacy setting that covers this. As of now, they’re only visible under the Video tab when viewing her profile.
Advice?

Massachusetts bans surgery that devocalizes dogs... →
Massachusetts on Wednesday will become the first state to ban the surgery that devocalizes dogs and cats, which many animal rights advocates see as a cruel and unnecessary procedure.
Many animal rights advocates? MANY?! If there is any animal rights organization that doesn’t denounce this as abuse, it’s not an animal rights organization.

Libraries will give you things for free. Hi, have you noticed how much hardcover books cost? Not a Netflix person? They will hand you things for free. That’s not an especially hard concept to sell.
reminds me of this:
maybe this is fake, but if not … wow, that’s sad.
